night owl

It's that time of year when the birds like to get up super-early and have a massive party outside our bedroom window. This wouldn't really be a problem for me as I'm pretty good at sleeping. I've had lots of practice. But the other half is a bit rubbish. He wakes up. And then shuffles about. A lot. So I wake up too. In the middle of the bloody night.
I'm making him wear earplugs tonight...

#100days

Another little fella...
I could almost be doing one of those #100daysofsomethingorother couldn't I?
Ha ha!
Not really.
I don't know how people keep up with them. Advent is bad enough. We always realise that THAT is a crap idea on the 6th of December!

Actually people don't always keep up with them anyway do they? They vanish for a bit then put #day21 #day22 and #day23 on all at once with some panicked apology about having to attend a christening far away from home and a sickness bug but it's ok cos they're catching up now. Only to vanish again on #day26.
Save yourself the stress people. Life's too short for the pressure of all that #100days nonsense!

showing off about my upcoming weekend away...

I was on a roll last week. I seemed to have loads of time to do ProperWork and loads of time to do NotProperWork. I got right into drawing all these little characters. Really enjoyed myself.
I won't be doing any more this week though. On top of dentist and orthodontist appointments for the big one I have eyebrow and nail appointments for me.
Oh. And a FOUR DAY WEEK.
Did I mention it's our girls weekend this week? Oh Yesssss. Two nights in a very fancy spa hotel. Don't mind if I do.
Lucky I created a surplus of little characters last week eh!

birthday bash

We had a fab night at the 18th bbq last night. Of course it chucked it down. It's Yorkshire. So we sat under the gazebo and the birthday boy's mum (our good friend Ali) kept bringing us all this delish food to fatten us up. We drank far too much and kept the neighbours awake with our fabulous singing. Top night.

sit down

Something strange has started to happen in my life and I'm not quite sure how to handle it.
I have started to get a bit of.....spare time!!!!
Well, maybe not exactly spare time cos I always have a zillion things on my to do list. But I have more time than I used to have. Which is obvs just as good to someone who is used to running round like a crazy mad fool ALL THE TIME.
Take last night... I start work at 7.30 am on a Tuesday and Wednesday now, thanks to the over-enthusiastic teaching staff at the little one's school, so by 4pm I feel like I've done sufficient "proper work".
Last night I fed the kids and did a couple of jobs then the little one went to play out with his mates and the big one assumed her usual position. (Lounging around on her bed with several electronic devises to hand and a bit of homework opened up to stop me nagging) I didn't have to set off to girls night for 2 hours and I had already done sufficient proper work to satisfy everyone. And so I found myself in a rather unusual position. I didn't know what to do!
Obviously I could have cleaned something. But I hate cleaning. And I could have done some more proper work. But I didn't feel the need. And I suppose I could have just sat on my arse and watched telly. But after 15 years of doing 17 things at once I really can't just sit and watch telly anymore.
So in the end I faffed about for about an hour trying to decide on the best use of my new found spare time. Then I did the ironing. All of it. To. The. Bottom. Of. The. Pile.
I really need to learn to sit and do nothing if this is to be my new life - post small children - don't I...

old school

My friend's little boy had a special birthday yesterday.
He was eighteen.
EIGHTEEN! OMG that makes us feel really bloody proper old!
I'm invited to his 18th party on Saturday. I'm also invited to a 40th on the same day. I'm thinking the 18th might win.
Clinging onto my youth with both hands!

maths homework

The little one's friend texted last night to 'remind' the little one that his maths homework has to be handed in on Tuesday. I asked the little one what the homework was. The little one didn't have a bloody clue. After further investigation it turned out that they had been given a maths booklet in January and they were meant to complete one section a week. The first TWELVE sections should now be filled in and ready for checking this week.
The little one continued to look blank. As blank, it turns out, as the sodding maths book.
He hadn't even started the flipping thing. He's just been carrying it round in his school bag all year!
He said, "Well nobody told me!" Yeah, top excuse kid!

So we have just had 2 nightmare nights doing 3 months worth of maths homework. I'm exhausted.
And I know the panda has nothing to do with the homework disaster. I was just doodling to relax ok.

Rain. Bloody marvellous. Where's the sodding sun gone?

family reunited

Well the kids are back in town. The little one arrived home on Saturday and immediately trashed the house. He also appears to have turned into a stroppy tweenager overnight and keeps having meltdowns when asked a million times to do stuff. Like get dressed.
The big one arrived home this afternoon. I know this because the little one and I went to pick her up. However after the short journey home from school she hasn't really been seen. Apart from a brief appearance when food was mentioned. Other than that she's been locked in her bedroom. Oh, and she had a 2 hour bath. And a shower.

Ahhh I missed them so much. It's soo lovely to have them back.

home in the sun

I NEED a home in the sun. I don't want to up-sticks and move somewhere warm like on a permanent basis. But I do want somewhere we can just sod off to when the crap weather here depresses me.
We had such a fab time in Spain last week. We had loads of sunshine. And it was warm. And I didn't have to wear all my clothes on-top-of-each-other-all-at-once like I do here. Even in summer.
I'm thinking at first we can just go in school holidays. Till the kids leave school. Then I'm gonna spend all January and February there.
I can work anywhere. Most people I work with never want to see me. They won't even notice I'm living it large in España. Apart from maybe mid afternoon when I'm having a sneaky siesta and I don't respond immediately to emails.
Cos how hard can it actually be to buy our own casa? We stayed at the in-law's Spanish pad again this time and all the people round there are Brits with a CostaDelGetAway second home.
If the woman from Liverpool with no teeth can do it then so can we.

march 2016

That was March on my blog...
