dental traumas

The big one has been undergoing orthodontic treatment for nearly 3 years. They had to wait for her teeth to grow before proceeding and now they've grown there's not enough room in her mouth.
She has a small mouth.
It doesn't stop her from talking. Or eating. But it makes her teeth wonky.
She had to have 4 of them removed before her braces could be fitted. She had the first 2 taken out by our dentist last week and went for the other 2 removing last night. She was in there LikeForEver before a stressed looking hygienist came to fetch me. The dentist couldn't get one of the teeth out. It was stuck. But she had managed to rough it up a bit and chip loads of it off. She put a temporary filling on it and the big one had to go back this morning for someone else to take it out.
It's all been a bit stressful! I didn't have dental traumas scheduled into my diary today. I was meant to be drawing dinosaurs!

keep smiling

Do you think that going out of the Euros tonight might stop people moaning about going out of the EU for a minute? Only I've had it up to here with the moaning from THAT! I think some people just like having something to be miserable about. I've had to hide loads of people on facebook this week because they're just so bloody negative. And they're STILL going on about it. A lot! It's almost like they're enjoying the doom and gloom. Life is what you make it. I believe you can make the most out of any situation. So whether you voted in or out, it is what it is. Get over it and get on with it. Together.

jo cox

We went to the Jo Cox memorial in Batley on Thursday. They asked scouts to go in uniform and the little one wanted to go.
She was our MP. She was murdered 5 minutes away from where we live. So very sad.
It's an awful world sometimes.

stone roses...again

We went to see the Stone Roses on Friday. Again. This little jaunt had been planned for ages though. We went with our friends and stayed over in Manchester. It was fab. But of course it could never live up to the last minute warm-up gig in Halifax last week.
The best bit was meeting up with our lovely friend Sar, who came up from Cardiff. I used to live with her in Manchester a million years ago and haven't seen her for over 8 years. It was soooo lovely to see her. We spent a brill afternoon in a dodgy pub in the arse end of the city. Must do it more often.

happy father's day

Most hectic and full-to-the-top weekend ever.... and so it continues...happy father's day to my dad and the other half, love you both x

a sheep called Olive

The other half knows someone who lives on a farm. She has loads of sheep. The other half took the little one to see the lambs when they were born the other week. The little one showed mucho interest in the cute little things. He's now landed himself a job for the day tomorrow... he's going with Rosie the farmer to some agricultural show thing and he has the job of 'showing' the lamb. He has to walk round a field with Olive and hope she wins top prize. He went to see her tonight for a bit of a training sesh. Turns out Olive is no longer this tiny little lamb. She's a massive sheep. They grow up fast these days.
Good luck Alf and Olive!

Stone Roses warm up gig

We had a fab night on Tuesday. We went to the Stone Roses warm up gig at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax. It was bloody fantastic. Only 1500 people. And we were right at the front. Getting squashed. And pushed. And trampled on. Till halfway through when we moved to the side with the other old people. For our own safety.
We didn't stop smiling all the next day. Paying for it now of course. I have bruises on my feet and I'm bloody knackered. That's what you get for living it large on a school night I suppose.

manchester swan

The big one and I had a lovely day trip to Manchester on Thursday. On the train. Shopping. And eating. I used to live in Manchester, I forgot how fab it was. We bought mainly new clothes for her. But we saw an inflatable swan in Urban Outfitters that we wanted. For our hols. The same swan that was on everyone's smugstagrams last summer. We didn't buy it. We don't go for another 10 weeks. Buying now would just be ridiculous.

scout camp

The little one got back from his week away at scout camp today. It was too quiet without him, I really missed him. The big one didn't. It took until Tuesday for her to ask where he was!
While he was away we could keep up to date with their scouty activities 'cos the leaders kindly put photos on facebook for us. Admittedly there were more photos of the animals at the safari park than actual scouts. But we got the gist. They fed some giraffes. Happy days.
