fetch!

Will someone please explain to Minnie the dog that although I'm happy to leave the patio doors open all day to play fetch in summer, it's no fun when it's blowing a gale, freezing cold and chucking it down outside.
Fetch is over till at least June...

fab weekend

This weekend I...
...Got my new iPhone5 without even queuing...love love love it.
...Had a lovely night in with my friend, our kids, Peppa Pig and a bottle of wine.
...Went to the park with my sis and the kids. In total sunshine. Without flipflops.
...Went on a jaunt to the greyhound races with the other half and his work chums.
...Won a fiver on the bus and £1.81 at said races.
...Had a lie in till 10 am!!!
...Took the big one shopping with her mates. She wouldn't be seen dead with me so I had 3.5 hours to kill....on my own...in a shopping centre. Pass me my credit card! This has not happened to me for 12 years. Oh the joy!
...Collected a rather delish fish pie from my folks 'cos we were too late to eat with them.
...Watched Downton Abbey. On my own.
Does life get any better than this?

A message to the mums on the school run.....
Summer is over! It's freezing! Stop wearing flip flops!
What is wrong with these people?
Thank you.

internetting

The little one went to a party this morning. Then the other half took him to the footie.
The big one did her homework. Then she went off to Rosanella's birthday sleepover.
This left me in the very rare position of having some time on my hands. On a Saturday!!
I could've hot footed it into Leeds for some retail therapy.
Or gone back to bed for the afternoon.
I could've cleaned the entire house and tackled the ironing mountain.
Or just sat on my arse on the sofa with a magazine and a glass of wine.
But instead I put the time to good use.
I got myself on the interweb.
I booked a ferry to the Isle of Man for a weekend away.
Then I ordered myself an iPhone 5.
I'm sooo giddy. It's due to arrive on Friday. RELEASE DAY!
Beats the 10 mile queue I found myself in for the iPhone 4.
Which leaves me wondering what I'll do on Friday when I save myself 4 hours worth of queuing?
Sofa and wine perhaps??

large family

We walked to school today with a kid from the little one's class. And his family. His Mum has 4 kids. The oldest is 8. The youngest is 3. She has her hands full. She always has a buggy and all these bags and lunch boxes and coats and kids
So I asked her today when the littlest one would start Nursery.
January, she said.
Oooh, I said...what are you gonna do with all your time?!!
She looked at me. Sighed. And said... "I'm pregnant!"
OMG! She is having child number 5 in January!!
Imagine THAT!
F I V E  KIDS!
Two kids stress me out. Five would tip me over the edge.
She is clearly more laid back than me. And much lovelier. And much much more patient... And completely mad!

large instrument

The little one will be getting an instrument from school tomorrow. He will have it for a year. He will be expected to lug it to school every Tuesday. Then lug it home. He is supposed to practice with it every night.
This is not great news for me. It will either be a violin, a cello or a double bass. It may very well be bigger than him. And it is certain to make a right bloody racket.
Can't wait!

back to school week

Well the big one loved her new school. She looked very smart, made new friends and came home with enough books to fill a small library.

The little one was happy in his new class and got voted in as 'eco-councillor'. (No idea what that entails but if he starts nagging me to turn the heating off and have a shower instead of a bath he will have to resign.)

And me? I was supermother this week. I got up extra early every day. I had the washing hanging out before 7.30 am!! The neighbours assumed it was still there from the night before because this has never happened before. I made the little man's sarnies on a night to free up some time on a morning for further motherly duties. I had uniforms laid out ready every day. I was dressed in time to meet and greet the folks picking the big one up. Me and the little one set off in plenty of time to school and didn't have to run all the way there, not even once! I returned letters and signed planners on all the right days. I started work as soon as I got in every day 'cos there was no crap to pick up off the floor and put away. I'd already done it. *smug face*

Anyway I'm totally knackered now. Next week I'll be going back to being get-up-at-the-last-minute-and-shout-a-lot-mother. It's so much more fun that way. Supermothers can be such a bore.

They took this one...
and made it into these....

They made this

mess

The big one's idea of keeping her room tidy is chucking everything she owns on a pile in the middle of the floor.
Her idea of actually tidying her room is piling everything up in the corner and hoping I won't notice.
Well, sunshine, I have noticed and if it stays this way I'm getting serious with a bin bag as soon as you get your sorry ass back to school on Tuesday....
