exam hell

We're a household in the middle of exam hell at the mo. The eldest is in the middle of her A levels. She is somewhat erratic with the revision and alternates between staring at her phone for hours on end and writing pages and pages of elaborate notes.
Her bedroom is such a tip that she has now decamped to the dining table. It's completely covered in revision crap and we can no longer eat there.
She had a biology exam this morning so she stayed up all night to revise.
She is driving me mad.
Only 3 exams to go now though. In 11 days it will all be over.
Can't. Bloody. Wait.

nice weather for ducks

What's with all the April showers this week? It's nearly June for gawd's sake!

The youngest is away at camp. The eldest is either sleeping or staring at her phone in order to avoid very-late-in-the-day A level revision. So as Monday was a bank holiday, the other half and I squeezed in a cheeky trip to Saltaire. It was chucking it down. So we hid in a pub and stuffed our faces. Obvs.
And of course I paid a visit to the book shop in Salts Mill. Best. Shop. Ever.

I realised something while looking at all the fab kids books they have there. I like the simple books best. The board books. In my head I think I want to illustrate fancy picture books. Then people go on about expression and texture and movement and fiddly piddly detail and I try to be someone else. But really I just like a nice board book. Simple. Matt paper, not cheap and shiny. Nice colours. Quirky pictures. You have to do what you love really don't you?...

spring bank holiday

You wait all year for a bank holiday then 3 come along at once.
Better get to the pub to celebrate then.

retired

I have retired.
From the school run 😜
After 15 years!
The eldest left school last week. The youngest walks to his school. My services are no longer required. Apart from for a few exams of course, I can't wriggle out of them.
But maybe when they're over I'll swap my car for a funky thing on two wheels...
Maybe...

burger t-shirt day

I walk past the primary school on my morning dog walk. Today was some kind of non uniform day. Rex was just going into school. In his burger t-shirt. Apparently he didn't really want to wear his burger t-shirt. But he looked pretty cool anyway.
True story.

icy blast

The calendar says "spring".
The weather outside says "autumn".
The temperature in my studio this morning says "arctic bloody winter".
For some reason all the radiators in the house are on full blast, as they have been since September, but the one in my studio is icy cold!
I have had to decamp to the breakfast bar 😩

Another long weekend? Don't mind if I do.

frog procrastination

Drawing frogs.
Procrastination which I can actually convince myself is real work.
Well it IS.
Obvs 🤷🏼‍♀️

april showers

British summer time resumes today with some good old downpours.
We can't moan though, Easter weekend was the hottest and sunniest weekend EVER. It involved boat rides on a river, tennis with the kids, drinks in the pub, a family day of fun at my favourite sister's and a trip to the bike park.
Followed of course by a trip to A&E with a broken wrist for the youngest who didn't manage to remain in one piece on his actual bike.
